I have never sent one but I have received a front IFS diff from a junkyard by way of UPS.
All they did was stuff newspaper into the holes for the half shafts and then wrap the thing in THICK plastic wrap.
I would think that would work fairly well for the front at least. Not much is going to hurt a front IFS housing.

Get a plastic tote from wal-mart & wrap the diff in cardboard & then tape it all up real good. Place the taped up cardboard armored diff into the tote & tape the top on & ship. That's how ZUK says to ship to him & he ships a lot of them. He also recommends you DO NOT use styrofoam packing peanuts as they get in everything & crumble up making a mess.

if its a rear 3rd, 5 gallon stuffed with large bubble wrap should suffice. if its a front, you might want to d/c the add tube, and package together in a box.
larger boxes & totes will just add to the size & weight, upping prices. but since buyer is paying shipping, it shouldnt matter.
