This happens to soooooooo many businesses in niche industries- internet and growth. While we al wish that we could get billet-unubtanium CNC'd parts that arrive in a day, fit perfectly, and are the best deal around, such is not the case. I'm not making excuses or defending anybody, but it's very rare that you find a small company of specialists (aka Marlin, ORS, URD) than can do everything right, all the time. It takes time and experience in business. I don't care if the guy has built trans / tcases for 30 yrs, it has no bearing on how business is conducted.

I think sometimes we forget we aren't ordering Ipods on amazon.com. Point to any typical problem experienced, and I'll show you a reason for it:

Parts not there on time? Supplier delays (ALWAYS happens), Weather, acts of theft, young parts guy thinking about wheeling that night instead of getting your parts out the door.

Young guy on the phone who 'just doesn't understand' Hey- every industry has to have a future, doesn't it? Do you think the owner can answer every call? C'mon- you guys know a _________ shop like this (insert trade in blank). The owner is real good at what he does, but- the phone always rings, he has to tell this guy or that guy what to do, another 'buddy' just walked in, etc.

Wrong stuff arrived. Well- this one is usually due to head-up-ass disease. But- on who? Did you define exactly what you wanted, or even better, did he understand what you wanted or needed? Usually, a good customer tracking system keeps this from happening.

FYI- I've kinda had to push things with MC, but I'm a big fan of what shows up- stuff that works, is packaged very well, and is reasonably priced. Marlin himself helped me with my trans swap issue- he called me. He more than made up for a small delay in shipping (shifter bushing as well) by helping me get on the right path.

You make very good points 89934runr. I'm sure Marlin's situation is not one easily managed. All in all, I'd recommend his parts to people, I'd just warn'em about the potential wait..hehe.

BTW, my condolences on the death of Deano, whomever that may be. That was something I did not know about.
