please chime in on adventure trailers

Hey guys thinking of buying an Adventure Trailer; the Chase Model with amenities it would cost about $10,000. Do any of you have any experience or advice with these campers?

Thanks

I would like to have just a basic one like that.

Then I would add a roof top tent to it like Wayne runs on his FJ.

The trailer could have a flip lid so you could store your camping gear and firewood below.

Outlander Trailers in Ark. made mine. It was one of two prototypes that were made last year. Since then he has made several others and does custom work to you specs. His prices are great too. This one was under $5k.

The hitch on the Adventure trailers is pretty impressive - allows A LOT of rotation of the trailer independent of the vehicle. Far more than a pintle hitch will allow.

I went to see Mario at their shop last week because I was interested in buying one in the next year or so. I was so impressed, I called him the next day to place my order. I got the (very) basic Chaser, as you can add stuff later as you want. I thought about building my own, but don't think my skills are there yet. It would be very satisfying to have made it myself, but instead of earning that satisfaction, I'll be out camping.

I say go for it!

Take a look at Expedition Portal. They have a couple of pretty good reviews and a lot of the guys on that forum run the Chaser or Horizon models.

Where'd you get that info? Those are impressive and much quieter than a pintle hitch, but it does not allow more rotation than my pintle hitch.

The actual hitch on my trailer twists 360 degrees. I can flip the trailer onto its top if I wanted to and not turn my 4runner over. Basically the trailer can twist in any direction until it hits something. My pintle hitch doesn't hinder it at all.

The nice things about the adventure trailer coupler is that it does basically the same thing but it does it quietly. It moves on 3 axis, while the pintle is unlimited.

I should say that this is with the military trailers that are designed with the lunnette loop that twists 360 degrees.

I have personally witnessed an adventure trailer rotating 360 degrees.

Never seen a pintle that could do that, but then I haven't seen many of them either...

I didn't say that they wouldn't, I was saying that you were wrong about them having much more movement than the pintle hitches with the military trailers.

On the military trailers, the lunnette ring turns 360 degrees. I can walk out to mine, stick a broom handle through the ring and twist the ring all the way around.

The lock n roll hitches are awesome, their advantages are that they are quiet compared to a lunnete/pintle combo. Pintle and ring bang around a fair bit, some people don't like it. I'm used to it from using them in the military. They are strong as hell also.

Not to mention slightly more financially feasable. To do a lock and roll about $200 to do a pintle $100, the estimates are for the draw bar and trailer mounted unit.

One thing I like about the lock n roll setup is that you can pull it from the trailer itself, which can be a theft deterrent when you are not around. This can also be done with the m416, but involves removing a nut rather than simply removing a pin.

To the OP, go for it! Those trailers are amazing and they have wonderful customer service from what I have seen. The guys even post their knowledge on expo to help those of us who are building our own expedition trailers. Eventually, when that money tree start growing, I may convert my leaf suspension to their air bag suspension.
