Did your truck burn Oil when new?

For those who bought their rigs new, did your truck burn/lose oil when new? I currently lose about a quart to a quart and a half between oil changes (6000 km's/3500 miles) roughly. It says in my owners manual for my truck that your engine will/should use oil from oil escaping past the seals into the combustion chamber (which surprises me when new). It also says you should check your oil everytime you fill your gas tank. Not sure if it says this in later Toyota models. What has your expierience been? I find that kinda odd I guess, perhaps the tolerances weren't as fine when these trucks were being made, I don't know? You tell me.

when new, the oil consumption is due to the fact that the engine hasnt been broken in yet. the rings and seals havent been set in the cylinder walls so oil gets past them.
