CEL Code 71 Question
So I have a code 71, EGR problem... I recently installed a catback (which came with and is using bolt on U-clamps? I think they're called...) anyways... Would a leak from this system cause a code 71 CEL message?

Nope, sure wouldn't.
That's an EGR gas temperature sensor code. Which means the EGR valve is malfunctioning, the VSV for the EGR is malfunctioning, and/or there's a open/short in the sensor or VSV circuit. Could also be a fault in the ECU possibly, but that'd be the last on the list of things to check.
Here's the good stuff.

cool thanks... Prolly will be replacing the valve (all the EGR stuff has 160,000 mi. on it now with a slightly rich running engine...) see if that helps
