Aux Air Valve on 22re

Aux Air Valve on 22re
I have an air valve on my 1985 22re. I have experience some confusion on whether it is supposed to pass air at all when hot or not. What I have read says it is supposed to pass a little air all the time. I was able to shut off the leak with a new o-ring but I removed it also. Any input on this valve would be interesting. Thanks
The air valve's only function is to raise idle when cold.

Yeah, it may pass a little air when hot, but is should only allow enough air to increase the idle by 50 RPM's (according to the FSM)
As long as you get a fast idle with a cold engine, and the idle lowers as the engine warms up, it's working fine. The only problem I have is the orifice in the throttle body that leads to the air valve clogs up after many miles. Easy fix though.

Air Valve
Has anyone ever taken apart the Aux Air Valve? I need to compare my results of the air valve with someone else. I have read it is supposed to pass air all the time but it doesn't make much sense. By adding an o-ring I got it to not pass air when hot but the engine runs too rich then. Let me know if you look at the air valve(below the intake manifold). Allowing air to leak past valve o ring doesn't make sense but it's that or no air when hot. 1985 22RE Thanks
