Winch question
Well guys since i'm going to be grabbing a AOR bumper and winch this summer, i believe it'd be smart to make the decision on the winch right now lol
the choices are...
Smittybuilt XRC-8
Smittybuild XRC-10
keep in mind this is going on a '92 4runner, that's in my sig...would it be wise to spend the extra $100 for the 10,000lb winch?? or is the 8,000lb PLENTY?

If the larger winch is only a 100 dollars more, then i would go for the 10.000 LB winch. The 4Runner is heavier than a truck so the larger winch will handle the weight better than the smaller one.

well double the pull on your 8k and you're at 16k...I think 10k is overkill but really it's up to you. Do you PLAN on heavy winching? I see if Scotty can hook you up with that frame reinforcement kit...

x 2 it is always better to have to much winch and be able to get unstuck then to watch your rig slide down the hill because you didn't have enough

No it's not. It's recommended to use a winch x2 the weight of the vehicle... And there's a good reason for it.
Every time you winch you might not be on level ground. You might be down a hill. And for that you need all you can cause you will be cooking that "not rated for continues duty" winch...

Actually I believe its 1.5 times your weight, but like I said its up to you. If your front end isn't up to the task your 15k or 20k or 10k isn't gonna matter when it rips off of your frame...
Using snatch blocks to take load off the winch is the way to go. What you really need is a winch with a nice length of cable on it. That just maybe the 10k...

And no winch that I know of is rated at continues duty... So in my eyes they're all ticking time bombs as to when you'll be getting them rewound...
And that's where not getting the cheapest China winch comes into play...

That's true it does cut the pull in half BUT, who needs a fast recovery anyway? Really, though, go warn if you want quick line FPM.
On a side note, these winches in particular: the 8k has bigger cable with a likely faster FPM, where as the 10k has a smaller cable to fit and extra 24" of cable with a likely slower FPM...I'm just sayin...
Either way they're still better than a come-a-long!!!!!

yea i don't plan on doing anything TOO extreme in the runner...but the added security of a winch helps a lot lol...and i'm constantly pulling people out so i can make money off of it LOL

I have both smittybult's the 10k comp with syn line I have used the piss out of it this winter pulling people out of ditch's and what not and compared to my 8k with steel line the 10k kicks it's ass it is well worth the extra $100 bucks in my opinion.
I pulled a DODGE DULLEY with it no problem and even my own 4runner when I got stuck in 60" of snow after unburing the winch and it worked great. I think it was well worth the over kill cause ya just never know when your gonna need it.

I am not familiar with the smitty all that much, but you may want to consider how big the 10 compared to the 8 is, and how your going to mount it, i just bought the warn 8, and it fits nicely, prob would have gotten the 9.5 but i got a really good deal, and the 9.5 seemed like it may have been a tight fit for my bumper. (mc front)

i thought the XRC-8 and XRC-10 were basically the exact same winch, but the XRC-10 has a differentgear ration..like 2??/1 instead of the XRC-8's 17?/1
