I think that is a good idea. What is the best way to tell what cam. carb, exhaust, etc. is better then another? Should they all be setup with the others in mind to get the most from each?

Do you think I can do one of these upgrades at a time, or do they need to be done at once?

I would try to get it breathing better. I changed the exhaust ( cut out the cat replaced the muffler) and changed the air and fuel filters. Other than a good oil change these things seemd to put the most "cheep" bang back in my old 22r. Just my .02
