hey, we aren't talking economical swaps lmfao..title of the thread is SUPER STOCK 3.0 hahahahaha
i'm with you guys though, i'd swap before i stroked lmfao
i'm lost on what to swap to though, 4.3? or 3.4?
3.4 is lots easier because it bolts right up...but other than that, the 4.3 seems to be the better bet (FOR ME!) more power than a 3.4, about the same reliability, decent aftermarket, and about the same gas mileage with 35's lol about 17-20 highway, (geared of course)

i'd op for a newer 4.3 though, prolly around 2000-2007 model...haven't done much research about it so it might not be feasible with all the new smog crap going on all motors these days.

Thanks for the info. I believe the stock HP for the vaunted 3VZE is 140 or 145. and factory numbers are never from the wheels, so 50 HP gain is a good amount.
I'd consider the upgraded 3.0 for ease of replacement (if i'd known about it 6 months ago), but I got an 89 TBI 4.3 w/700R4, waiting to be removed and then rebuilt.

I just bought one of the Super Stock 3VZE's. I need to buy headers and a couple of other parts before I drop it in. So, it will be a bit before I see the difference - however, I am not expecting anything earth-shattering.
John, at Oregon Engines quoted 190 hp to me as well. Below are the installed performance options that he lists on ebay:
"The following is a list of the performance options installed in this "SUPER-STOCK" long block engine: New hypereutectic pistons and wrist-pins, over-sized IN&EX swirl-polished chrome stem hard tiped valves, RV cam shafts with 402 lift and a duration of 222deg."
Hopefully, we will be happy with the motor when we eventually get it in and running. BTW, John at OE has been a pleasure to deal with.

that soounds like a pretty big cam LOL
i wouldn't mind throwin a set of cams in my 3vze..i want something that's gonna be pretty damn noticeable though, something that's gonna give me a bit of a rough idle, and some impressive gains from like say, close to idle to about 4000rpms..say 1500-4000rpms? anybody know what lift and duration i would want to be at?
420 lift, 230 duration?

Anybody have experience with the 3.not-so-slow (super stock) that OER is selling? That is, anyone put it in and think it's worthwhile?
I have a 3.slow with 150 kms on it and it runs great, it just runs 3.slo.
