stock axles with 351 swap
Ok,this mite have been addressed but could not find anything when I did my search.I am putting a 351w and AOD in my 79 yoda, not going to build it up just bone stock with a propane kit.I was just looking for good of idle low end torque only a v8 can deliver, and going ford because I like the sound and the way it Idles not to mention I happen to have a 351w sitting in my garage without a home.
The question on my mind is,How long will my stock 4 cyl 3rds last if I dont abuse the truck? What could I do other then replacing the intire axle to make them hold up to the v8?
Exsperiance tells me I will snap the 3rd before the axle or pinion but I was looking for some insight from poeple that have done a v8 that could tell me how long there stock set up lasted.thks in advance.
Your not having fun if you dont break something!!!!!!!

So your saying to put a 9" in the rear, what about the front,do I need to put one up there or does it not matter?
How about this,Can I swap the 3rd member out for a stronger one say like a v6 or swap in a dana 44 3rd.I know it wont bolt up but got a welder and can weld mounting bolts on to match or have a shop do it for me.Any body have a suggestion other then spending 2-4 g on 9" rear and front?

you could try a V6 third.
Alot of guys run V8's through toyota axles without any issues.
also, a 3rd from another axle won't work in a toyota axle, lol.
toyotas are 8" carriers, so putting anything bigger in it would require a larger housing.

Its a stock motor rite now,233 hp, I am planning to put propane on it so I am going to build it to propane specs witch includes upping the compression, but my plans are to keep it stock. The power a stock motor puts out is a hell of a lot better then what I can squeeze out of the 20r I have and if I am going to start swapping motors around I am going to do it rite the first time, like I said before I already have the motor in my garage. Its the off idle torque I am going after. Not planning on racing the truck just having fun off roading.

I see a lot of v8 conversions, but a lot have changed out there axles.I'm not willing to give up my narrow wheel base.I guess it would depend on how hard I run the truck.I just don't want to buy lockers for my stock axles and then have to replace the axle when I brake it and have to buy another locker for the replacement axle.
