Question about snow/heavy rain
So its been raining alot lately and I just had some questions. I was off roading and wasn't that deep in water but enough, do I need a diff. breather extension? Also I was about to do the deckplate mod, what do most of you do in the snow or heavy rain do you plug it back up?

If you run into water on occasion, then do the extension. As for the deckplate, rain shouldn't bother it neither should snow unless you're talking blizzard, then close it up.

I drove my Eclipse in plenty of heavy rains with an open filter element and never any problems and it was much more exposed than the deckplate mod by far and on the Runner I've yet to ever put the plate back in.

I did the deck plate mod....and I have left the deck plate in place since I installed it. I never run without the plate in it...I wish I would not have done the mod since I have NEVER take out my deckplate from the air box.
About the diff breather extension.....its a good idea if you do a lot of water or river fording however I don't have one and have driven through the deepest snows in wyoming and idaho and have had no issues with snow causing contamination in my axle's gear oil. Water on the other hand would be more of a real problem, but I personally haven't needed one and I wheel my tacoma hard.

Like rngrchad said, dont worry about the breather in the snow, but if you go in water deeper than your hubs you need a breather extension.
As far as the deckplate being open I wouldnt worry about it...

Now when i do the deckplate mod today will I NEED a new filter to get the performance or can I wait. I have read on some threads that using the stock filter instead of say a truflow actually decreases performance. Any input? Thank ya
