plug gap and valve settings?

I have a question maybe you guys can shed some light on. I have a freshly rebuilt 22re with a engnbldr 268 torker cam, high perfomance head with stiffer springs, larger valves, ported, and polished ect. I am also running 8.5mm msd wires, cold air intake, and full header, and exhaust. The other day i checked and set my valves to .08 exhaust and .012 intake as the book recommended. Yes it was on a hot engine. Also i went through the plugs and gapped them to .031. To be honest the truck ran better when all of the valves and plugs were a little out of spec, not much or anything drastic but a little out of norm. By the way the plugs are ngks as well. My question is if i'm running all of this stuff should i compensate by having a larger plug gap and larger or smaller valve clearances? This engine should run like a bat out of hell by 22re standards and seems to fall a little short. By the way after i adjusted my valves the valvetrain noise was louder and sounded worse than before wtf i thought doing that would make it quieter but it had the opposite affect.

Try setting the plugs at .035, and with the head work you have, try advancing the timming a little, and see what that does.

i would think about re adjusting the valve lash clearances. most aftermarket cams have different than stock clearances. i know my trd cam did. what is your intake vacuum pressure at with that cam?

see i don't want to be mean and or rude but um..... its not an OEM set up you got, so its not going to be right with OEM specs...... EVER! so yea.... adjust it until it runs right is all i can... i only deal with OEM...... well with ur set up you may never have a quiet engine again..... make sure theres oil in it and enough for valve noise.... and its prolly mostly cause its outta spec due to the non OEM parts installed..... make sure you know what your doing before you do it....

You might consider calling engnbldr and see what he what he recomends for the valve adjustments with the cam your using.

well after tinkering with the valve clearances and resetting the plug gap to .035 the mouse is mighty once again! I set the valves at .009 intake and .013 exhaust. Just a little more than spec. And the plugs a little more as well. I might still call engnbldr later this week and see if I'm close to his spec on the valves, but for now she's purring like a kitten. thanks myyota for the help and infinity as well.
