Question Newbie questions - 98' T100

So my car's engine had some issues and now I am thinking of getting a 98' 4x4 Toyota T100 w/ the 4.3L as a second vehicle while I rebuild my cars engine. After years of driving a car, I am missing having a truck.

I am thinking of the T100 truck as around my area Tacomas are just about the same price, if not more for the mileage, and I like the T100s slightly larger size. My budget is about 6k. I am not looking for speed or performance, I have my car for that. I am looking for a basic truck, good in snow, able to drive on forest access roads, etc. Nothing crazy.

Can I expect the same reliability in the V6 T100 as I can the Tacomas (I know the I4s are bulletproof)?

Can I assume the T100 4x4 has a rear mechanical LSD though I've never seen it mentioned. (I assume its not wheel speed sensors)

TRD makes a bolt on SC for the 3.4L, is this worth the expense (pulling one from junkyard)? I hear the T100s are a bit underpowered for their weight. I don't imagine ever pulling a trailer. I think this adds lots of HP but only 15ftlbs, so ... questionable.

Where is the best website to buy performance, suspension and trim parts?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Im guessing you mean the 3.4 not a 4.3. The 4.3 is a gm motor. If you are looking for a basic truck you will not need any performance, suspension, and trim pieces. Stock suspension will handle forest access roads no problem.

There is rumor that the 3.4 still had some hg issues in 95 and 96 but I have yet to actually see any threads of it happening to someone. The t100 has an open rear diff. The trd tacoma comes with a electronic rear locker.

Your post is a little contradicting. You say you are looking for a basic truck and not looking for speed and performance but you are asking about adding speed and performance. So its kind of hard to give advice on stuff that you are supposedly not looking to do

ha... true that was contradictory. LSD was what I was mainly interested in and if people have issues with the T100. Open rear diff is pretty lame. I guess the Eaton TRD diff would be the solution?

I would possibly add a SC only if its underpowered. Thats why I was asking about where to get a SC, 'performance parts'. Hope that makes more sense.

Stock suspension I would assume would be shot at 125k+ miles. So replacing it with an upgraded, similar to factory, may be in order.

Thanks for the info on 95-96s.
