Newbie with 92 pickup questions
I'm new here and just bought a 92 toyota pickup with 82000 miles on it. It has the 22re in it, 5 speed manual tranny.
I want to go through it and make sure everything is good to go before driving it much.
First is changing the oil. The owner said that she used all different brands of oil it it, but always 5w-30. I was thinking of using mobil one 5w-30 and the toyota
90915-YZZD3 filter.
Next are two big jobs which I have never done before but feel that I am able to do.
One being a valve adjustment. There seems to be a ticking toward the back of the motor. And I'm sure the valves have never been adjusted. It will also give me a chance to look at the guilds for the timing chain.
I plan on ordering a new gasket and gromets for the valve cover before hand.
The next concern I have is the coolant. It has never been changed and looks rusty. I have read some threads on this but not sure if its a good idea to go head and do it. I don't want to cause any more issues and as people say why fix something that isn't broke.
Any advice/pointers would be great.

I plan on running this truck until the first snowfall up here in NH, Then parking it. Will the 20/50 mix do alright in the lower temps?
Do you recommend a brand to use?
I have been reading some other threads on changing coolant and seems like everyone does it differently. So far here is the method I have come up with.
Drain the coolant out of the drain on the radiator and the drain on the engine block. Close drains.
Then with heat in cab on full fill the radiator with distilled water and let it run for 15 minutes, then drain radiator and engine block again. Repeat process until water is clear. Also drain overflow and fill with red coolant.
Then to get the 50/50 mix do I just drain the water out of the radiator and fill with Toyota red coolant? Or do I have to drain the engine block too?
I searched around but didn’t find a definite answer.
