OP. the best thing you can do in my educated opinion, is to get bigger tires, upgrade your injectors and make sure the motor is pulling air as easy as possible. I explained in an earlier post why a bigger exhaust isn't too important without a turbo.

to make it easy, a diesel loves compression and fuel/intake flow.

Nonono
He should gear to a stock feel.
THEN do performance mods.
He keeps the powerband in the speed areas he wants, but he gets more power.
I'd gear as well as performance mods..

I will have to agree with Yotaman 85 on this. get the tires, and invest in the mods that will add horsepower... turbo with a larger exhaust added at the same time, larger injectors, and intake.

I think he got in trouble. The post where he called me a bit&% was edited.

I most certainly did NOT call you a b.... I said, "it's ppl like you that b.... and complain... about a Diesel..."

And I edited it b/c it was soapbox... But the truth... You don't see any Diesels coming to Merica, do you?

And for the record, gas engines bring the suck

A friend with a 25mpg Bj60 spends .20 a gal on BioDiesel... And I'm jealous to the point I want to start making "BioGas"

some copper wire... how do you make a still again?

We must start with a stock setup then manipulate the rest!!!
The factory setup is 205 R16, see below:

I bought this truck about 1.5 years ago and love it. I've a stable 21 MPG (11 litre per 100km) fuel consumption on- and offroad. Some guys feed these engines with cooking oil + diesel mix without any ill effects (cooking oil up to 70-80%) for lower costs and a little extra performance.

Lol good lord.
Okay.
It would certainly help to get the axles geared to 4.88's, or even 5.29's.
The recommemded gear change from 28-33 is like 5.85..

That is amazing... small truck but tows a mountain. I would love to be able to do that modify the engine for a turbo, and just go for miles getting great mileage.

in the US, the range of tires available in the 205 R16 size is limited. ... The diameter of these tires is very slightly larger than the 29 inch 205-R16, ...

so we will start here

calculator says new gears=5.19 high gears=4.72 low gears=5.66
5.19 for 2wd

now the reality is that the tranny is not designed to run that much power through that set of gears on that large of wheel !!!

Even though some of you say that "YOU WOULD JUST DO POWER MODS"
!!!!!!!!!!!!DOES NOT MAKE IT THE RIGHT COURSE OF ACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SIMPLY PUT YOUR SUGGESTION COULD CAUSE HIM A TRANNY REPLACEMENT!!!!

The right way is to regear for the wheel then do power mods!!!

have you ever heard not to haul in OD well if you did not regear this set up then you would cause this same effect thus blowing at least the 5th Gear out if not 3rd and 4th as well!!!

Aone can talk about what they would do BUT I will say that done correctly is to regear and then do power mods!!!!!!!!!!

The rest of you can think what you want about what I just said but I do have a 5th that needs replacing soon!!! From too large of tires!!!!!!!!
