Why would you want to swap from EFI to a carb ?, Thats going backwards. The EFI will give you more power and better gas mileage and if you go wheeling it won`t stall out when your at extreme angles. What most people here do is swap the automatic for a five speed manual, thats what i did on my 86 4Runner and it was well worth it.

The computer and other related parts are relatively trouble free on our vehicles, as long as you do the required regular maintenance there are very few things that would go wrong. Over the past few months i have been going through my 4Runner and replacing some of the original sensors that i know can and will wear out over time, ive replaced the TPS and the 02 sensor because they were original parts with over 200.000 miles on them. The only part that has ever gone bad on my 4Runner is the solenoid resistor, its part of the fuel injector circuit, but other than that i havn`t had any problems.

the main reason im wanting to swap the motor is that im always having problems with the cold start injector, i really like the efi cause it has no problem 6000 rpms on the open road with no problems other than tryin to start it first thing in the mornings

The cold start injector is controled by a thermal time switch that can go bad causing the cold start injector not to work, so check that out, another thing to do is pull the cold start injector out of the intake and clean it, carbon can build up on it and cause it to not spray fuel properly. When i removed the one on my 4Runner it was a nasty mess, but a can of carb cleaner made it look and work like new.
