hey, pretty sure you can have more power AND better gas mileage....it's not rocket science.
my buddies Hemi in his '06 dodge 4x4, 3" leveling kit in the front, bags in the rear, 20x9 rockstars, 33x12.50 mud grapplers, and it gets 21 on the highway, and about 15 in town..pretty sure your gonna be VERY VERY VERY lucky to get that out of ANY toyota, with the same rims, tires, and lift. (no gearing....that's cheating in this instance LOL )
you could always go diesel bro, a 4bt would look very nice under the hood of a tacoma

and the whole "toyota's run foreva" thing is a complete lie LOL..
as with any truck, it all comes down to how it was treat by the previous owner, or if you're the only owner....and you didn't keep up on maintenance..
you can't go out and thrash a truck, and expect it to be perfectly 100% okay for the rest of forever.
although i do have to point out...that my cousin has had the same dodge diesel since it was new in '92..ext cab 4x4 5spd...and we have put that truck through HELL...whether it's running it up to the windshield in water and mud (it had a 4" lift and some 38's, plus a snorkel, and a stupid lookin dozer exhaust stack) and it still fires up within a few seconds of hittin the key....now this is a diesel...but still more reliable than any toyota i've seen.

i've heard with minor trimming a RamJet 502 will bolt right up
keep your 3.4... SC or re gear if you need more power. if this is a DD? you dont want to be doing motor swaps just cuz.
