Gas tank skid plate?
Is it really necessary? My '04 4X4 x-cab w/54k is a daily driver which is never used off road and only sees 1/2 dozen days a year in the snow here in SE PA. The frame passed the dealer inspection and was rust proofed but they didn't touch the fuel tank skid plate which is rusting badly. Anyone else running without one?

Is it rusted through? Or just on the surface?
If its only the surface, you can pull it off, sand it down, and rust proof it yourself.
It doesn't really matter if you're not offroading, but you might as well leave it on just in case you hit a malevolent parking cone...

With my luck I would remove mine and the next day run over something put a hole in the tank something would spark and I would have a fireball behind me
engulfing the car tail gating me.
I am in the rebuild process of a truck with a very rusted one also my plans are to replace it

Yo W9 I'm @ Pive Points, nice hear from another NT resident! Yea it's rusting through otherwise I would just clean it up and do a repaint. Right now it just marks it's territory with rust stains on the garage floor.

when i drained the tank in my 85, i took off the skidplate (wich had alot of surface rust but nothing too bad) and never got around to putting it back on, ive been on road without it and offraod without it for about 4 motnhs now, and last week i started sanding it down, to repaint it.
you should be okay without it, but hey better safe then sorry
