Engine swap options for 3.4 owner?
Hey guys, Newbie here. I have a 2000 4Runner SR5 4X4 with the 5VZE V6. She's got about 180 K miles on her and I'm planning on keeping her if/when the engine goes. I'm wondering if a newer generation V6 or V8 will fit or even one of the Lexus V6 or V8's. I'd love to have the extra power. Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!

You would really have to abuse/neglect that motor to kill it!
But seriously if you keep up on oil changes and preventative maintenance, run good high octane fuel, it will be a long time before you will need to put something else in.
If it's more power your looking for, get your hands on a 3.4 supercharger and then call these guys. www.urdusa.com for the fuel upgrade kit. It will be much easier (and most likely cheaper) than a swap. Put on a good set of headers with a better exhaust, and you'll be smoking 4.7 V8 stocker 4th gens.

Moved to Newbie Tech Section.
Your thread title is the definition of ambiguous (one of the rules on here if you read them).
You posted this in the 3.4 swap section but you're wanting to swap in a different engine so it doesn't fall into that category anyway.
I'll keep this in the Newbie section for now until you decide on a swap and gather some more information.
While you won't necessarily get spoon-fed in here, it will at least give you a little more leniency.
I would also recommend using the "Advanced Search" feature and focus your searching on the Engine Swaps section.

The supercharger and the URD 7th injector kit are the best power upgrade you can get for the 3.4, but IMO you're past the point of throwing on a S/C safely with 180K. It's going to be hard on that engine getting supercharged so far into it's life.
Do you have oversized tires? Because if so, regearing will restore your lost power from bigger tires and won't cause the wear and tear like adding a S/C would.

The 3.4 is a low compression engine producing crap power for its displacement. Its not going to have a hard life if driven in a normal manner. It ws designed for forced induction anyway. Throw on a supercharger add some fuel and dont worry about it.

Thanks for the advice guys. 4Runner is still bone stock, and I haven't upgraded to larger tires. It's paid for and I have enjoyed it so much that I'm gona keep it forever. I'll happily replace the engine with another 3.4 based on the advice here. So S/C and the URD 7th injector kit is the way to go huh?
