91 Pick up to 4Runner Body Swap??
Just wonderin, do y'all think its possible to swap the body from a '91 Pick-up onto a '91 4runner frame? I think they are the same frame, but I could be wrong. I did some searching, and didn't find anything on this, but that doesn't mean much, as I may have missed a thread. Just kinda wonderin.

??? im guessing you mean that the holes for the body-frame bolts don't match up?would it matter if I used an extra cab, short bed, or will they just not match?

Front 6 will be the same but the bed mounts will not line up as body mounts, i.e. Not bolt on. Thus possible, but not bolt on. I doubt you are going to find a how to online you are just going to have to do it.

yeah, i figured that. It's not something Im going to do in the near future anyway, just a thought for down the road, like if I ever get some body damage that doesn't mess up the frame, but still totals the truck kind of thing. I like the look of the pick-ups, but i love my runner too much to trade. If I used a Hilux pickup, would it make a difference?

nevermind, i see you apparently did try to search.
However, no it does not matter wether you use a hilux frame or not. You simply cannot swap a truck frame under a 4runenr body without major modifications.

It's not THAT major if you know how to weld ... several people in COTTORA have done cab swaps recently, and it's not that tough to move the body mounts. Simply cut them off the frame, bolt them to the body, reweld them to the frame in the new location.

no, no, 4runner frame under a truck body. still probably major mods, huh?If there are threads on this, please feel free to point them out, as I said, I may have overlooked one. I also may not have put in the correct search topic, I'm still tryin to figure that out. Thanks guys.

Well lets start with the obvious.
1. 4Runner is a coil spring, truck is a leaf spring
2. Different length frames
3. Different frame bends, ie 4Runner rear floors are higher than their pickup bed counterparts
4. Different frame mounts (front two are the same, everything else from there back is different)
5. Different parking brake setups
6. Different fuel tank setup
7. Should I really keep going?!

On a standard cab, they're not that different DC. (although that is a good point - get into putting an extended cab on a 4Runner frame and it's going to be tougher.)
For example, the stepup in the floor on the 4Runner is actually the same as the stepup from the floor of the cab to the floor of the bed in a truck. I think the front and next rows of body mounts are the same, after that, it's certainly different. Parking brake setup is only different at the back. From the cab down to the frame would be the only concern, and it should work. Fuel tank should be close enough to work, if not, swap it over too - wouldn't be that tough to convert it over.
Now that I think of it, all the problems are from the second body mount back. Just swap a pickup cab onto the 4Runner frame, leave the bed off, and it all gets super simple.
Here's putting an extended cab on a reg cab frame, A LOT more work than putting a pickup cab on a 4Runner frame.:

lol wabbit. DC, I actually didn't know that stuff, aside from the fact that pick-ups were leaf spring vs. Coil Spring, the only Yotas I have ever owned have been runners. Thank you for informing me about the differences in the two vehicles.
TC, Thank you , that type of info is what I was looking for.
Now, at the risk of getting reamed again, if I am swapping the bed onto the frame of the runner, where does the suspension come into play? I'm guessing the coil springs hit the body of the runner, not the frame? I haven't done any work on the suspension yet, so I'm kinda hazy on the subject. Also, If i did this, it would be several years down the road, when I have another vehicle to use as my daily driver. I might not even do this at all, it is just a random thought, kinda like a lot of the mods I want to do to my rig.

My point is that no, it won't bolt on, but it's not that hard to make it work.
The coilbuckets, etc on the 4Runner frame should not affect the mounting of the bed.

right. so, on a scale of 1-10, if swapping a std cab and bed is a 5, what would be the difficulty of swapping an extra cab, or even a Hilux cab and bed on? I like being able to carry people, but I also like the idea of having a cab that this completely closed off from the cargo area/bed.

Depends on how familiar you are with body work. At least a 7 IMHO, because you will need to notch the back of the cab to accomodate the rise in the frame.

I think someone kinda mentioned this before.....and maybe you dont like the idea it all......but it seems like a lot of the problems of doing this could be solved by doing a flat bed kit out back rather than putting the bed back on.
You mentioned the hilux body. I know that would be one of my dream rigs. Get the body off a hilux the 4 door and tube/flat bed out back. That would be pretty sick.
