I recently acquired a 90 4runner 3.0 automatic. I am looking at different suspension lifts that I can do on a budget. I want about a 3-4in lift so that I can easily run a 33x12x15 tire under it. Ive looked at Skyjacker, Rough Country, Tuff Country, Old Man Emu, and others. Goods? Bads? I would love to hear some opinions on different ones.

It will be my daily driver as well as a trail rig. It will see everything, rocks, mud, dirt, you name it. In the future I have plans to do a SAS and 3.4 manual swap (waayy down the road when i have more $$$).

i had a 4inch procomp stage 2 kit and it worked for me for 6yrs

Lots of people will chime in and tell you this: If all you want is to run 33s then dont waste your time/money on a bracket lift. Get some 1.5" ball-joint spacers and coil spacers for the back. Bam. Done.
And if you still have some clearance issues put in a 1" body lift.

I wouldn't even waste your money with the ifs lifts now. I regret doing so, i thought i would have stuck with ifs forever. I was wrong. I wasted my time on an ifs lift (i didn't like how it handled/wheeled) Put the $200+ towards your sas or motor swap.

just stick on a 3 inch body lift and dont get aggressive tires with massive sidelugs like on mine. it rubs pretty bad when i turn flexing

sorry i havent posted in a while. dont really spend much time on the computer. thanks for the input. i just bought a set of 33x10.5x15 BFG Mud Terrains. since i bought them the truck has not been running so i havent driven with them. i understand that 33x10.5s will fit under stock suspension with little rub. hopfully i will be able to try them out soon when i finish putting on new heads. i will see if they rub bad. hopefully not

x2. I don't think they rub at all 33"I heard rub a little not the 31" though.

I'm running 33's on stock and saggy butt. They rub a wee bit in the rear on full flex. Well enough to rip off my old rusted bumper that was hit and pushed in a bit before I got it. But you should do fine with the 33's.

As for the lift I agree with the above posts for the BJ Spacers but first I'd get the saggy butt taken care of with some new coils or LC coils. That will be my first step when I have a chance.

yeah i definitely want to take care of the saggy butt. my rear bumper was hit as well before i got the truck but its not too bad. i dont mind a lil trimming if i have to. eventually i will replace it with a steel tube bumper anyway so no big deal.

and on the motor... my buddys got a 350 chevy crate motor he will sell me for cheap. thinking that would be a good swap to get rid of the 3.0 automatic. i think i will mate up an NV4500 manual trans as well while im at it.

I would definitely lift it, no clearance just running 33's without. Then again how much wheelin' are you wanting to do, i did a 4 inch skyjacker sittin' on 33-13.50-15's on my 95 and love it. As far as a SAS its up to you but i LOVE my IFS. Body lifts, not happenin for me look goofy in my opinion, not to mention a buddy of mine (also not the brightest of fellas) was at the dunes and plowed his pick up into one, mounts broke and whole body shifted forward. Maybe this helps you make a decision if you haven't already made up your mind.

As far as the crate motor, do it right and it will be a bad ass rig my buddy had a 350 in his 91 pick up and it was a BEAST now he's steppin up to the 400 cant wait to see it now (he kept the automatic toyota tranny though) NV4500 would be nice let me know how it works out if you do do it
