Hello everyone from a new member!!

In all my research, this seems to be the best place to find the gurus to help me out with my dilemma. I'll start with a little background:

I have an '89 Toyota PU with a 22-RE engine that I got from my father-in-law so I'm the second owner. It's got about 220K miles on it and hasn't given me too many problems over the last 10 years or so, til now.

I started noticing throttle issues about 6 months ago where it would seem to sputter a bit if I hit the gas too hard and then after a long straight away, would stall out once I laid off of it. Time came to smog it and the timing was off, followed a tip (maybe a bad one) to adjust the TPS which worked and got me to pass smog, but it was running rich. Then I started running into over heating issues and having to refill the radiator too often (every few weeks). Doesn't seem to be in the oil, so I'm hoping I just need to replace the cap. Plus a lot of it seems to keep trapping in the reservior. Also started having issues going down the freeway and having the throttle and transmission going "unresponsive" which was wild, it felt like it stalled but the engine was still running.

Now this has just been my get me to work and back truck for now (saves a truck payment) until my son turns 16 next year, when I was going to buy a new one and start rebuilding this one as I generally can't afford a long period of downtime for the rebuild.

My mechanical skills are good, though the knowledge and experience are lacking. Basically as long as I've got the book, I can get it done. Plus I have a number of knowledgable guys at work willing to help.

I'm looking for ideas of what issue (or probably "issues") I've got going on and where to look first. I don't want to pay the big bucks for pro help when all I really need is a map.
