need a long block for a 22re. misfiring cylinder in my 85 4runner efi, looks like the cylinder is all messed up so i just need to replace instead of trying to bore it out or anything. let me know what you have, how many miles, and prices with shipping to 95975. i need it to include the timing cover but dont need anything like the water pump distributer stuff like that. thanks

Sunwest Crate Engine

Hey,

I am new to Yotatech. I have a 1994 Toyota Pickup ExtCab 4x4 with the 22RE, and I am looking to invest in a new motor. I have 236k on the old one, and it is having all sorts of problems. I have been looking around at all the websites selling 22RE's and it seems that Sunwest has one of the better reputations. I even called down there and talked to Bo, and he seemed very knowledgeable. I feel I can trust them, and I am pretty much sold on their "Supreme" 22RE with the New Cast Head and R.V. Cam.

Anyone have any suggestions or comments on Sunwest?

Total I will spend about $1800 to get it to my place in Nashville.

Has anyone ever put in a crate motor and has additional information on add-ons I will need for install?

I am going to replace to clutch while I am at it, and Sunwest said that they sell an install kit with new hoses.

Need experienced input from my Yota Peeps!

just put a new 22re in my 85 4runner. it was a rebuilt long block that i got from a place called rising sun engines. i got it for 1100, and if had been a smooth process it probably would have been worth it, but i DO NOT recommend them, i put it in and there was a ton of piston slap so i had to bring it to their shop (close to where i live) when i FINALLY got a hold of them 3 weeks later and they still have it another month after dropping it off. pretty much all you will need is the gaskets for basically EVERYTHING. new hoses are a good idea too. make sure you have plenty of coolant and oil around for when you are ready to run it. have yota tech open on your computer if you run into any walls. other than that is actually pretty straight forward. label the ˟˟˟˟ out of everything.

As I mentioned earlier. Sunwest motors are essentially a brand new motor. I bought the supreme as well. They won't charge you a core return up front, great service and product. I would highly recommend them. Yes, replace the clutch while you are at it. I have a bunch of other tips as well if you want them, however I am no pro. This was my first motor exchange.

Hey!

Thanks for the reply.

I am pretty much sold on Sunwest. I will probably order the supreme in the next week or so. I was talking to Bo yesterday and he was saying I need to direct a lot of my questions through Mike on Monday. He was also trying to sell so other things with it. Apparently, they have the "hook-up" with Nappa in the area and sell an Engine installation kit with a lot of extras, but idk if I want to spend the extra couple hundred bucks on it. I will replace the clutch and radiator hoses while I am doing it.

Does their gasket kit come with everything you need?

Also, anyone know a good replacement clutch brand? Sunwest said they would sell me one for $130.

This is my first crate motor as well. Any pointers are greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks!
