Made offer on 07 TRD Tacoma.....

Went to the Toyota dealer today to see if they had any 98-02 Runners or 01-04 Taco's, nothing. However, I was turned on to an 07 Tacoma TRD sport double cab longbed 4WD with 26k on it. They had it listed at $27k and long story short I offered $23k and they wouldnt go lower than $24,500. I offered to meet in the middle at $23,750 and they wouldnt budge. Oh well...

What do you guys think of the truck and price? Keep in mind its been there for 3 weeks and had a few minor cosmetic blemishes (scratches on bed and a few areas on the bumper touched up with paint)

Did I pass up a great deal or ????

If it's still there in a couple of days call again and ask if they are willing to accept your offer.

If it's still there at the end of the month, then go in an hour before closing and make an even lower offer. People are not buying cars and dealerships want to move what they have off the lot.

Yea, even the sales guy said they were really slow right now and had to lay off half of the staff so I was suprised that they wouldnt go down another $750.

$20k+ is a lot of money regardless and I told the sales manager that I dont need the truck and would continue to look around. I wasnt really planning to buy anything until next year, just happened to come across this one and liked it.

I wouldn't have offered to meet in the middle. But once they turned that offer down, I would have gone back to my original offer. Show them that they should have accepted the compromise offer, and that now it's too late. It's either your first offer, or not at all.

I would go there weekly. Be a thorn in their side.

Well see if its still there, they had at least 3 different groups of people looking at it when I was talking numbers.

They gave me the story that $24,5 was the lowest the truck has been offered to anyone as of yet (yea right) and that is almost cost of what they were in it. They tried to explain that the dealer was making only $700 and salesman was making only $600. Thats still $1300 profit so that definately wasnt the right thing to present to seal the deal. Making that much profit wont get an sympathy from me. Do you want to sell the truck and be done with it making a smaller profit, or continue to sit on it.....

Was $24,5 a good price or still too much? I wont pay it, but just curious for future reference.

With the recessions, do Toyotas still sell above retail like they used to? KBB wholesale on this truck was $23,450 and retail $27,650. I tried to point out some of the cosmetic issues such as the touched up bumpers and bed scratches, scratched bedliner, couple golf ball sized dings and 30% tread on tires and they were not listening.

Dealer called back yesterday and it was kinda weird. Sales manager called first and asked if I was still interested and said I was but was firm on my offer. He said okay and hung up. Then the sales person called 5 min later and asked if I was still interested. Said I was and that the sales manager had just called me, he said he didnt know anything about it.....

Anyway, The dealer said the lowest they would go is $24,250 and I said no. $23, 750 was the most I would pay. They said to let them know and I said the same.

Saw another one at another dealer same exact truck aside from tube style running boards, and 10k more miles. According the the internet sales manager this one had been sitting on the lot for about 30 days and needed to go. The online special was $25k and the lowest he would go was $23,750 (told him what I was offering on the other truck). Advised that due to the higher mileage, wouldnt want to pay more than $23k, he is supposed to let me know.

Oh, and the second one is out of factory bumper to bumper warrenty, but is certified with the 7 year / 100k certified warranty. The first one just had the balance of the bumper to bumper, not certified. Whats better?

I bought a 2007 TRD Off Road, automatic, JBl 6-disc, 3" lift with brandnew aftermarket wheels and 285/70/17 BFG km2 mudterrains two months ago for $20,000. It has 41k miles on it.
