Help can't turn key off and get key out of ignition!

I have a problem that has been intermittent but is getting worse with my '96 4runner.

Something is blocking my key from turning all the way to the off position so I can get it out of the ignition.

It will rotate from acc to on to start and back just fine. If I slam the gear shift back and forth with the key on over and over, checking each time by rotating they key eventually it will let me rotate past acc so I can remove the key.

Has anyone seen this issue before?

Is there some type of mechanism in the ignition switch that would keep the key from turning all the way off that might be malfunctioning?

It's getting way too annoying having to sit in a parking lot, slamming the gear shift back and forth for 5 minutes just to get my key to come out of the ignition.

Ahh thanks,

Looks like it will either be that system, or maybe just a worn out lock cylinder.
