FirstToy,

I did choose the BFG's. We were able to stuff the 285-70-17's in there with minimal trimming. You can see in the clearance shots, the small amount removed. The tires do butt the upper Control Arm at a full turn. Something I will be careful with for the immediate future.

The truck is nice and I'm glad to have retained the XREAS for now. I'm gonnna make my own extender - nothing fancy - for the rear shock this week. The "drive" experience since the lift/tires has changed only slightly.

BajaTaco, The XREAS is a closed, gas-pressurized shock system: with the front driver side connected with the rear passenger side, and the other two tied in together. As a front shock is compressed, its corresponding rear would extend, or so goes the theory. It translates into a level ride up the switch backs and a smooth ride over the washboards. To change out a rear shock(or any shock) means loosing the XREAS system, and as it is quoted as a $1200 dollar replacement price....I'm gonna deal with it for now.

SEDONAZ,

Your Runner is looking SWEET ! I'd be interested in seeing what trimming you had to do to get those 285s stuffed under there.

Do you think that you could have gone with a 275/70 17 and not have rubbing on the control arm or had to trim? If not, what is the biggest tire that you could run and not get rubbing and have to trim?

What kind of deal did you get on the Daystar lift? I have been looking at them and hope that the price will come down. $500 seem like an awful lot for some urethane bushings and a few bolts. I guess there needs to more competition in the market before they drop their price.

Not good, turns out Daystar hasn't shipped my lift yet. So I'm still waiting. I also decided to go with 2.5" in front and 2.0" in back

You can arbitrarily choose your height?

So, I can call Daystar and order a 2.25 front and 1.00 for the rear? Basically, they sell any size you want, it's not a 'packaged' deal at a 'packaged' height?

I don't see why not, except that you have to find a retailer, Daystar wouldn't sell it to me.

Ok so I am new here, just bought my 4Runner. I am also a little confused. Do we need to replace the stock lines and bleed the brakes with this kit?

Unless you go with an extreme lift, you shouldn't have to replace the stock lines.

Lefty / PistonSlap,

The trimming really was minimal. I will get some more close ups so that you may see it. Basically, a triangle shaped piece was cut out of the interior side of the mud flap. And the "cup" from the front of the inside fender was removed, with maybe another six inches of interior fender space.

I was worried about trimming at all in the first place, but once I tried on the 285's and witnessed how little trimming was needed; it was a no brainer. Evenstill, something about cutting up my first new car, much less, a $30k car had me weasy.

PistonSlap, the only 275-70-17's I was interested in were the Goodyear AT/S's. And those were actually 33.1 OD, slightly larger than the 32.9 BFG's. Go figure? I went with the BFG's out of past experience - no problems with them on the work truck.
