what year is my engine

the code on the block is 0465530, it's a 94 4runner, but while doing head gasket i noticed it had a spring tensioner on the timing belt instead of a hydraulic, now i'm wondering if the engine is an older model, any one know what the numbers mean

No idea on the code number. A dealership might help. Google? My '92 has the spring tensioner, but the block is out of an '89. Not much help, I suppose...

Tensioner style is determined by heads, not blocks. My '95 vz has hydraulic, it mounts to the head, '92 is spring, it mounts to the block

So, was there not a specific year when Toyota made a transition on the mounting style, then? IOW's, are you saying even some of the older motors....like a '92 or even '89....could have the hydraulic/head mounted tensioner?

Well, it's his engine, so I'll let him do the googling. Point is there was a year when the style changed.

all i can figure is, either someone put an older engine in, or transferred the spring tensioner and fan bracket/bearing from an older model, i was hoping someone knew how to decipher the block numbers, i was just wondering because now my 94 4runner with 140,000 miles might have 300,000 miles on the motor

Not necessarily, it may have been changed, couldn't get a hydraulic, bought a spring, I did.
Check your cylinders for compression, if it's good, doesn't matter how old/miles, it's good.
However you could take your engine number to a dealer to check for you or you might get an answer from entering the number on google..... remember, google is your friend.
