V6 carrier swap

So I did 4:56 v6 carrier swap front end was quite quick simple and straight forward did the add defeat... So on the rear was quite simple.. Resealed etc etc pumped it with gl5 80-90 til it came out the hole.. It seems like a simple straight forward carrier I drove down the freeway at 70 with 35 tires and stopped to gas up put my hand on the diff expecting warmth and it was pretty hot.. Maybe 5 seconds til I had to pull my hand off.. No weird noises other than when I first installed it the salvage yard must have put a lil geek in the dust cap behind the pinion cause it squeeked but that noise is gone... Question is... What's to hot? The truck drives just like it did with 31"s on 4:10 so I am super happy with the swap..I didn't do a thing to the carrier just installed it.. Only difference is the lil abs sensor on top of the diff.. I'll recheck the oil it had to disperse thru the housing? Other than that any suggestions? Or am I just belly aching?i have searched all over the Internet and this forum and did not find anything that pertains to this other than you don't want it stinking or smelling hot paint.. None to scientific..

Who really knows?

Who really cares?

Did it look good?

Did it feel good?

Then it probably is good.

Just drive it and quit worrying about it. What do you think you're going to do about it that's going to make any difference now anyway?

And technically...no. It doesn't drive just like 31s and 4.10s. Not even close. But no doubt much better than 35s and 4.10s. You'd need 5.29s.

Well at 70 mph I turn 2700 rpm.. 60 2400.. In 4 low 2.4 mph.. It's perfect for my application.. If I dual transfercase it will be insane.. 4:56 is the universal I wanted in case I got to 33"s it's a dual sport truck year round driver

I'm just going off speedo.. With 31's and 4:10 it was 3 mph off with 4:56 and 35 it's 4 mph off that's pretty close.. I can live with it...

If you can hold your hand on it for 5 seconds it's below 150 degF which is perfectly fine. Rear ends are only about 90-95% efficient because of the hypoid gears, which means they do generate a significant amount of heat at highway speeds.

They never came with a LSD from the factory. The 4-pinion V6/Turbo diff looks similar to one. Odds are you've been misinformed.

BTW how did the pinion angle change? It would be the same as the previous diff. Unless you messed with the spring perches. A simple carrier swap wouldn't change that at all.

Sounds to me like someone's trying to feed you a load of BS.

That's what I thought as well.. 4wp in post falls Idaho confirmed it.. Perhaps a aftermarket ad on? It has 2 tire fire when it's required

The pro comp springs caused the pinion change.. I found a thread on here were the problem was addressed.. I found backing it up. Incline made it quite simple to fill up just geek it until the pinion is pointed correctly.. Worked perfect.. No heat now

The donor four runner did not denote it as a psd.. But the front ifs carrier had been recently rebuilt my thoughts are they opted to give it a lsd carrier

If you say so...I guess.

But I still can't see how the springs would change the pinion angle. They shouldn't. If they do it's a flaw in their design. Which is good to know. Now I'll be sure to not buy those.
