Transmission swap

I have an 88 four runner 22RE. 5 spd. The current transmisssion is a w56c. It’s jumping out of first and second gear all the time and makes noise in every gear. I have a line on a low mileage G58 for a 22RE engine. Transmission only has 65K verifiable miles . My question is will my transfer case off the W56c bolt up to the G58 transmission?

Actually, considering your truck is an 88, it has a w56b transmission.
^That is a top shift & gear driven t/c

The g58 is chain driven, so i dont think it will fit

W56 has 21 splines on th shaft and the G58 has 26. They are not interchangeable. The question is whether or not the G58 trans + VF1A xfer case is the same length and have the same mounting at the cross member, etc. as the W56 + RF1A.

Heh - I would love to sell them to you but we would need to take some measurements. I do have an xfer case from a W56 that we could compare dimensions.

Easy way to settle it: just look if yours is top shift or forward shift.

On second thought, my specific G58 setup wont work easily. I do not have a gear shift lever or the lever alum cover. Would have to bone yard those parts and would probably be a PITA.

Gimme a ring tonight if you want to discuss further.

Decided to use the wrecking yard. Pick it up tomorrow. Gave me a 90 day warranty. Might be better than trying to make something work.
