Spun harmonic balancer
Approaching the last stages of my 22RE rebuild and found out that my harmonic balancer spun at some point and the TDC mark on that is on the pulley is now ~180 degrees off when the motor is at TDC.
New replacements aren't cheap but I'm wondering if this happens a lot or if this is just an anomaly. I have a few questions for the experts...
How does this happen and can it be avoided?
I might have a line on a used harmonic balancer from an older 22r but it only has 2 pulleys. I haven't had a chance to look at it but it looks like on mine the outermost pulley (for the power steering or AC, I don't remember off the top of my head) just bolts on to the inner two.
So, my question is: Can you bolt on the third, outermost pulley to the earlier design harmonic balancers that only have two?
Also, just wanted to add there is no damage to the crank and the key. And...Just wanna throw this out there: if there's anyone on here from the Denver area that has a spare one that's in good condition and is looking to sell or trade for parts please let me know!
Thanks!

this is a common occurrence. The harmonic is a two piece steal with rubber in between. The rubber degrades and shrinks over time allowing the outer metal to turn in relation to the inner piece.

not sure about the pulley. but some one should be able to tell you soon.

I also got mine from Rockauto. I finished mine off by "tapping" it off with a soft hammer when I did my timing chain. Knew better, but it was the original item nearly 20 years old, so not much lost. They don't last forever.
