Last weekend I was trying to climb a big hill and after about the 6th attempt I heard some snapping from the front drivers side and my four wheel drive stoppped working. So I tore the front end apart because the cv's and hubs were fine. I found that the spider gears were just shreded. I have a complete front third member from a 4cylinder with 4.10s but my truck is a 3.0 and the gears are different. But my question is are the spider gears the same on a 3.0 and a 4 cylinder?

I dont belive they are the same. What gear ratio is your truck? You can put the V6 third in the front end with no modifications.

I thought all 7.5" diffs where the same?

yeah on the front im pretty sure they are the same, but they are different in the rear.

7.5?? I thought we were talking about the solid axle 8". If it is the IFS diff I couldnt tell ya

Thanks for the help! I ended up countin my stock gears and it turns out they were 4.10's so I swapped the whole front 3rd member from the 4 cylinder into my v6 and my 4wd is working great. I am kind of dissapointed that I didnt have the 4.56's that I thought I had but I can pull my 33 12.50s good so Im not to worried about it. Plus I can get whole 3rd's with 4.10s for $20 any time so if I break a diff again I can fix it easy and dirt cheap.

i don't think that you can re-use/ mix macth v6 3rd and 4cly 3rd parts. the v6 one is bigger and beffier and has 4 spiders where the 4cly has 2. i believe that the v6 spiders are smaller than the 4cly ones

you are correct about the 4 spider gears on the v6 but thats only in the rear end, the 4 cylinder and v6 share the same 7.5" front diff.(to the best of my knowledge)

b/s rules

x2 with trusty rusty, but be prepared to lose your turning ability in 4wd. i just leave my drivers side hub unlocked to steer, then lock it in when things get ugly or on its side
