can the timing guide be replaced without removing the chain???....i know, i know, if i go that far ....but just asking. i know you can pull in the tensioner to provoded slack while making sure to not let it jump off the sprockets but if it's only a guide that is pulverized and the chain is OK can it be done??

partypeepers...this s the place for all the help you will need...information-wise and encouragement -wise...it's also a good place for ribbing, so bear with it at times.

Yes, but theres no point. Once you have torn the whole shibang down, there is no reason not to replace everything.

overtime the chain streches and creates slack, this will allow the camshaft to become out of time.

If the guide is bad, the chain is old.

Buy a kit (its so cheap... even with a new timing chain cover!) and replace the guides, chain and sprockets and tensioner.

engnbldr carries everything you need to rebuild your engine with great parts and a good price. I spent about $700 for a brand new (no core) street/RV head thats fully assembled with oversize valves and has been slightly ported, 261c 'crawler' camshaft, full timing set with brand new cover, and a full gasket and seal set. Very nice people, the owner actually answers the phones for technical questions. Fast shipping too (4-5 days from california-georgia)

I live 5 miles from the place and everyone there is super nice. Great shop that has performance heads already built and its not really that much more to get a performance one.

Sounds like a good price but will it pass deq? And the gaskets what brand? Gaskets especially the headgasket should be a good quality one otherwise you will blow the gasket and that is not fun

REMEMBER.....You Get What You Pay For.

I don't want to be a pessimist here, but realize first you may be saving money at 1st but if there is not a relaibility factor to back that up, you may ended up spending more money, and time in the end.

I saw a recent posting about counterfeit "backwards" head gaskets for a 3vze. I have no clue what aftermarket heads are available out there and i'm sure there are good ones, but before jumping boh feet intothis because you are saving $$$$, think of the risk / benefit ratio. Find out the reputation of these guys.......start a thread asking just that, i imagine that is allowed. i just have to say that even though i haven't purchased anything from engnbldr yet, i will, for the reasons of reputation and customer service.

God, i sound old and responsible.

And yeah,me too. what does deq mean?
