Remove tranny shifter while tranny is still installed?

I have a R150F tranny and I'm trying to remove the shifter due to it leaking between oil deflector and tranny. I can't get to the front right bolt. Do I loosen the cross member to lower the tranny? If so, do I need to loosen or disconnect anything before I lower the tranny a few inches? Any other ideas? Thanks.

you could drill a hole in the floor just big enough for your socket. Can't get a wrench in there?

I can get a wrench on it but can't turn it due to no room. I'd prefer to not drummer a hole but that is an idea!

You can pop the shift RIGHT OUT without removing ANY bolts. Push down on the collar aroune the base while turning @ 1/8 turn (right? left? don't remember!) and it will come right out. Piece of cake! It was made that way to easily replace the shifter bushing.

Otherwise, you can drop the crossmember bolts down an inch or so & get to the bolts holding the shifter.

I need to get the plate out that the shifter mounts to, not just the shifter.

Finally got it out by lowering the tranny/t-case about 1" and using a 1/4" drive 12mm swivel and extension. Thanks.
