I have an 89 pickup with a v6
I bought an elec. full sweep "GS" series water temp. gauge from autometer
Does the v6 have a sensor for the gauge and a sensor for the computer
If so which is where
Does anyone know if I need an adapter because the thread hole on the sensor I know of on the back of the intake plenum is too small for what I got with the gauge

ok well autometer is made for older cheveys and stains so yeah your going to have to get a thead adapter for it and as far as the water temp sencers go well get it hot and unplug one of them if the gauge on the dash stops working then you know if it runs funny and the gauge on the dash still works then you know thats for the ecm sorry i dont know V6's at all as i have a 22re with 3 watter temp sencers

no problem man hope it helps you out a little bit and the worst thats gonna happen is its going to think its really cold and run rich may miss and pop the cel but you can get it hot turn it off unplug one and turn key to on and see if the dash gauge works before you drive it that way too

Another way to do it, and it was Mt. Goat who did it, is to use a piece of pipe, drill and tap a hole (1/8" NPT, if memory serves) and install it in your upper rad hose. Cut the hose about halfway and insert the pipe. Ground the sending unit and run the wire to your Autometer gauge.

will getting a reading off the upper rad. hose be as good as one off of the intake plenum.

The upper hose reads within about 5 degrees of my ECU OBDII read-out, after the t-stat opens.
