New to me '87 xtra cab.
I picked up a decent little 87 xtra cab the other day. Overall its in good shape and runs great.
Has a few little problems and a little body damage but nothing serious except the rust on the side of the bed.
I paid $1600 which wasn't too bad.
I don't really plan on doing much to it other then fixing up whats wrong with it and throwing on a rattlecan paint job.
The last two pictures show the rust on the bed side.

I know things are probably different in the Pacific Northwest, but the market in New England puts that truck around $2000. It looks really nice, regardless of what you paid.
If it were mine, I'd remove all of the rust and put a spray in black bedliner to the top of that seam from front to back. It would look good with the silver, and you could keep the bed you already have.

Yeah I'm just gonna cut it out and weld in some new metal. I was just over exaggerating. I know the guys in the rust belt probably wouldn't even bat an eyelash ay those little spots.
The truck is going to be painted flat tan, I know the paint doesn't look to bad in the pics but it really is.

Well we got some sun here finally so I decided to do some work to the new truck. Got rid of the rust on the side of the bed and did a lil painting. This thing should look pretty good when I'm done.
Did a bit of sanding so the paint will stick and not just flake away.
Then I sprayed on some krylon flat khaki.
After that I started on the tailgate.
And thats as far as I am.

Got tired of sanding so I went and dinked around the yard.
Gettin some serious flex.
Fun Fact: I had to put it in 4hi to get off that log.
Random pic.
And if you want a decent cheaper plasma that can run on 110v, pick up one of these. Cuts through body panels like butter.
Great for cutting out little rust spots. I think its rated to 3/4" and is dual phase so you can also use 220v if you got it.

Just come up with something and sent Corey a PM with "name change request' in the subject line.
Pick something not is use (search member names here) search option is on far right.
just make sure it is a name you will keep
nice find on the truck

Update
Today I went over to my moms for easter dinner and while there I decided to grab my old Impreza seat thats been sitting in her garage for a couple years.
The old seat was pretty much junk and needed to go.
The Impreza seat is almost a total bolt in. You have to bend the front tabs down to a 90 degree angle like the stock ones then drill a new hole on the tab closest to the door.
The rear inside bolt down tab is the only one that really needs work. You can run it with three bolts but I don't like that idea.
So I got out the grinder and welder and went to work.
I cut off the old tab and modified it like so.
Then after a little more work it ended up like this.
Put the seat in and this is how it looked. In the picture the bracket blocks the seatbelt bolt, I fixed that later and didn't take a pic.
And now its done.

Not much done today. I was going to use the tan door in the above pictures but decided to fix the one that came with the truck.
Might as well keep the vent window on both sides.
Basically just slapped a bunch of bondo in it and went to town with the sander.
I'm not done yet, but it will by no means be perfect. It is after all a work truck.
First coat o'Bondo
Some sanding
More Bondo
After more sanding and primer for the night. Will do a little more tomorrow but its pretty much good enough for me.

Hello 85Turbo.. Body work is looking great and the truck is looking better each time I see it. Keep up the great work.
I see you are converting your 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. May I ask which route you are going to go about it? I have read that if some one is going to SAS a two drive frame can be used or are you going to use a 4WD frame?
Subscribed and looking forward to your build.
