Need some help deciding.

Ok, Ive got a 92 4X4 with a 3.0 and a 5-speed. The engine is starting to spring some leaks. Not bad but just enough to piss me off when I look at the engine bay. I have a buddy with a complete non-running (blown bottom end) 92 4Runner with a 3.0/5-speed and he has a extra motor/tranny/t-case. He also has extra body parts and axels and stuff too. He might sell it for $800. I was thinking about taking one of the engines, trannies, and t-cases and going through/rebuilding them and droping them into my truck. Then do the same thing for the Runner and make one a woods truck and one a DD. Is that a good deal?

And some questions about the engine, could I make the 3.0 have a little more power with better equipment? Is it worth cams, and stuff like that in a 3.0? My truck has 4.30s and it is on 31x10.50s now. Its pretty fast for a 4X4 truck. Its all stock. Could I build a fairly reliable 3.0 with some performance or is the 3.0 just never gonna be torquey/powerful?

yep, X's 2...

for the money and effort to beef up the 3.0, a 3.4 swap would be SOOOO much better

either for the DD or the woods truck

Here's what I would do. Get the other Runner, then decide which one you want to make the woods truck. Once decided, put the leaking motor in that one, but not before rebuilding the bad motor out of the Runner to use in whatever Yoter you want to use for the DD. if that makes any sence...

current leaky motor -> woods truck
rebuilt "bad motor" from newly aquired Runner -> DD

makes sense. the 3.0 has enough power for whatever offroading i will do. i can gear it to spin the tires. just wanted to know if its worth modding them. you cant have too much power. but i have enough. id keep my 2-door in my sig if it was a 5-speed. but the auto has to go. my buddy is gonna buy it as soon as he has the money. then ill get another 5-speed yota and have my dd and ww.

man... you dont even have a 3.0 trav...
imo, there are small things that you can do that dont make a HUGE difference, but this motor was built for big low-end torque... ya, a 5vz would be cool, but really, a set of headers, an ISR mod, and full synthetics and this motor will perform perfect offroad...

play to the advantages of the motor and you dont have to worry about not having enough power...
