Nearly roasted my motor due to water hose blowing off

In short, I blew the heater outlet connection to where it connects to the return tube to the back of the water pump. I probably drove a few miles after this event before finally pulling over and getting her shut down. I think I caught it in time, but am not exactly sure. She doesn't smoke or run rough and I still got the pesky oil leak from the timing cover gasket which I'm diving back into.
I'd greatly appreciate you inputs on things I should check out. Pls comment over on the other thread.
