So I will try to make this as short and sweet as possible. I recently blew a headgasket... and when i went to remove cam gear all i had to do was just tap it off with a rubber mallet. Fast forward a little bit... torqued the head down and my sprocket is about the width of the dowel to short. After reading the manual I have found that possibly by moving the crankshaft it might let some slack out, no dice. So what is going on here the engine is a rebuild with 30k on it and I have not lost timing. Any ideas? thanks

you need to take off the timing cover and replace the tensioner. Might as well replace the timing chain to. Pretty easy

You have to push in the tensioner. Just reach something down the front of the engine like a long screwdriver and push it in and pull up on the cam sprocket, it should slide right on.

Without that tensioner pushed in, you won't be able to get the chain on correctly.

Be careful though. You can damage the tensioner.
