Looking to delete the EGR out of my 87 single cab

Does anybody have any pics that show the process to delete the EGR system from the motor? I've searched the threads and have come up with nothing. Anything advice would be great.

Remove & plug the vacuum hose that goes to the EGR; that will disable it & it won't open again. You'll need to install a 10,000 ohm resistor to the wiring harness to prevent CEL.

Never heard of having to wire in a resistor. What would you be talking about in regards to that?

he has an 87, so i doubt there is a gas temp sensor on it....

I blocked my egr for 50 cents.... took 2 quarters, stck 1 btween the egr, and intake plenum with some rtv silicone to seal it, the other in the tube that comes from the exhaust manifold.... no issues in the 4 years its been like that :-)

Thanks Team420. While we are on the issue of deleting things I've heard different stories on deleting the VSV. What's y'alls opinions on that? I've heard you have to blip the throttle while turning but that's the only thing I've heard about it. Mine has a broke off nipple so if I don't got to replace it I'd rather not fork out the money.

neither my truck nor my celica have the vsv and I have no issues with power steering. I was under the impression it only functions at full lock to prevent possible stalling anyway.

In my 88 build on the first post, I show how I block off my EGR and have not had any problems. I have heard of the resistor trick but have never tried it. I like my way though.

What exactly does the resistor trick do?

Well, mine is a 93, and has a gas temp sensor in the egr valve, if u block, or remove the egr, that sensor will not register the correct info to the ecu, which = cel, and rough idle/running, so u stick the 10k ohms resistor in the plug that would connect to the egr, to "trick" the ecu into thinking its at the correct temp.

I see. On my EGR I don't see any type of sensor so I think I'm safe to say I don't need one. Just trying to get rid of some of these vacuum lines and make it less of a mess up under the hood. Looks like a giant jigsaw puzzle under there right now. Lol

How much did that block off kit from LC Engineering set you back? Also back to the VSV delete, what did you do with the plug that was plugged into it?

$14.95 for the egr block off and $14.95 for the air injection block off

Oh and don't forget to get a couple of boxes of vacuum plugs...

Great pics by the way. I must have overlooked those whenever I was buyin all my stuff from them. I had already spent a small fortune so I think the last thing on my mind was buying anything else. Think I may just order those from them instead of makin them.

I put a pipe plug in the BVSV. The VSV hose that went to the EGR I just plugged. Was not aware I could completely delete it?
Now that i think of it I probably could delete it as well...

On the VSV there is a electrical plug that plugs into it. I was wondering what you do with the plug once you delete it. Is there a cap or something for it?

Not that I'm aware of. Then I would have another wire that hangs around doing nothing.

I have quite a few of those just hanging around at the moment. Guess it helps to take pictures before you totally dismantle a motor.

Just less vacuum leaks to worry about. But if you're in a county that requires smog emissions then I wouldn't do it
