Austin Marr : why do people do the ISR mod???? whats wrong with the stock one???
Because somebody told them it was cool and it would give them more power and better MPG, to date nobody has shown a dyno sheet or and real world mileage figures, it makes noise so it gives one the illusion of power, basically a waste of time and money.

well sir, heres the scoop . i am not changing the filter, just getting rid of wasted space in the engine bay. period. not doing it for the sound or mileage or power.
but...how about you show us a flow chart saying that air flows better through non-smooth piping with drastic bends in it as opposed to a smooth linear bent pipe.
those silencers are not there to gain power, but rather to decrease noise.
so once again i ask, does anybody wanna chime in with what angle bend?????

the plastic conduit is by far the best thing I've seen for the ISR mod, love it to death. Easy to cut and fit and work on, doesn't hold heat like metal, not to mention it's super cheap.
still netting 18 mpg's and I even have the alky injection disabled right now, pretty happy with that. got a couple of 15mpg's on a couple tanks over the last year but 17-18 seems to be the average, closer to 20 with the alky hooked up.

I did the the mod using my stock intake piping (I also left the elbow box) . I put a 2" round plastic plug (Ebay 3 bucks) in the opening on the Y shaped intake hose that the silencer box is(was) connected to. In the middle of the plug I inserted a barbed Vac fitting for the smaller of the two Vacuum hoses to re rout to. The larger vacuum hose I routed to the port on the top of the air box. This kept it very stock looking and didn't costmuch. The setup also just passed California smog which was a relief as I tossed my silencer box(s) .
Here's my question. During engine warm up and when I let off the peddal the intake makes a deep, gargally, throaty rumble . Its intermittent and sounds great otherwise
Is this what everyone else's ISR mod sounds like?

Sounds like you might be hearing the PAIR valve.
1" hardline that runs across the front of the intake manifold, The old hose from that ran into the square box on the side of the airfilter housing then another hose to the top of the airfilter housing.
The small box does help eliminate the gurgle.
Some just deal with it.
Some plug it off, Not suggested as the PAIR does two things, It keeps exhaust velocity and gets O2 to the CAT to help keep it cleaner burning.

Thanks Punchy, thats kinda what I was guessing. Now I'm wondering if there's a way I could build a descrete inline silencer for that some how...I was even considering lightly stuffing a sock in the line to see if it would miuffle it....I am glad its a normal side effect of the isr mod...I'm trying to sell the truck and that sound is going to freak buyers out a bit...

The main reason i did the isr was to clean up under the hood a bit...if i knew it was going to be so loud i probably would have atleast kept the airboxes...theres got to be a way to quiet it up a bit with out the big ugly silencer box
