Help a Newb

i'm sure this has been asked or discussed somewhere, but i'm having trouble finding it. i bought my 2wd 95 4runner with the intent on just driving it as a daily, now i want to mod it, well now i wish i would have gotten a 4x4, and can't seem to find one in the area, i'm thinking about swapping all the 4x4 parts on myself. well here it is, most of the pieces look like they are already on the truck, from spindles, to the clearance in the oil pan for the diff, to the front mount for the front diff, but what it is missing is the top 2 mounts for the diff? are these bolt on? welded on?

also here's a parts list i've compiled, and planned to dig out of a local pick and part.

ECU,
ECU connector
4x4 tranny
front diff
driveshaft
half shafts
gear selector
tranny crossmember
spindles

anything i'm missing?

i'm sure it would be easier to do a tranny swap and SAS conversion, i don't wanan go crazy, and i figure i could always pick up alot of this from people doing their own SAS swap.

hope you guys go easy on me lol

The 95 4Runner already is IFS. It just lacks the proper knuckles, front crossmember, propeller shaft and transmission/transfer case. .
We've had this discussion before. The 4Runners didn't get the cute name but in 95'ish, the "PreRunner" truck came out and it was... guess what... a 2wd truck based on 4wd suspension, just like the 2wd 4Runner.

yeah i think that putting in 4x4 to a 2wd would be way outta reach, and you would have to do more work with that than doing a SAS... IMO at least.

i just think a SAS is so much more benneficial, if you have the reasources for it i say do a SAS.

converting a 95 4Runner 2wd to 4wd is mostly a bolt on affair- after you get the transmission and transfer case.
Which, ironically, you'd have to get for SAS too, but then have to cut, weld, measure, tack-weld, re-measure, place, etc.

i have to do more research on this, but so far i'm gathering a spring hanger kit would be my best bet, with a solid axle, i'm still a little confused as of road handling though after an SAS, i'm guessing sway bars are completely eliminated. i'd like to have some nice road manners, as this is still my DD lol

yes that is true that its mosly bolt on things.. but IMO id rather do an SAS, just cause i hate having to bolt on things. i dont find it amusing.. maybe because i work at a tire store. all i can say about the ride with a solid axle is that my dad has a f350 (i know its completely different) but that thing is not that bad on the road..

You can't compare a stock f350 to a sased Toyota..

As far as 2wd To 4wd. Before you spend slot of moneyon doing a conversion, Get full armor, regear lock it in the rear do bj spacer and lc coils and run 33s. As long as you don't wheel alone you should be fine going alot of places you can't get now. Everything will convert over if you do put a 4wd drive train in it later. Just my 2cents. A locked 2wd with proper tires and armor can go just about everywheree a stock open 4wd can. Plus you'll have the look of a nodded runner even tho it's still 2wd.

All he needs is the 4WD Transmission, front diff, knuckles etc etc like he mentioned..

the 2WD/4WD 4runners are pretty similar, so he is good suspension wise.
Just gotta get the stuff to do it..
Go find a 4WD truck at the pick and pull and start pullin parts.
crossmembers, diffs, all that fun stuff.

seems easy enough, the only thing i've ever took offroad was a humvee, and honestly how big of a piece those things are, i never realized some of the impossible areas i've taken that thing, until i tried taking out my 4runner
