Header wrap on crossover - remove shield?

If you wrap the crossover with header wrap to cut down on the heat, do you first remove the metal heat shield? I'm thinking it wouldn't fit back in if you wrapped the heat shield and also think it might be defeating the purpose to wrap the heat shield anyway. Doesn't that header wrap have to be ON the actual pipe to be effective?

Don't use header wrap. Your asking for trouble.

I have heard not to use wrap but why? The rust issue? Stainless steel shouldn't rust

Stock 3.0 manifolds are not stainless. And headers for a 3.0 don't have a crossover. When you wrap a header it doesn't make the header cooler, it only makes the under hood temp cooler. It actually holds the heat into the manifold/crossover compounding the crossover problem in the 3.0.

I wouldn't, it's only gonna make the head hotter.

Aha! That makes good sense to me. Another "make work" project I invented that I don't have to do. I guess the opposite of this then would be to find a way to cool the heads better - that is to more quickly dissipate the heat at that crossover junction. Can anyone say GIANT HOOD SCOOP that dumps air down over the top of the engine and then an old Chaparral SUCKER FAN to pull the heat out of the bottom (and maybe increase downforce!). Aw, never mind.
