Good deal?

I found this "4-runner" for sale and went to take a look at it today. Here is the ad:
1991 Toyota 4 Runner 4x4, 3.0 V6 with 64,000 miles on rebuilt motor, motor runs strong no leaks, passed smog, upgraded alternator from a 03 Tundra, upgraded electric fan, K&N Cold Air Intake, Magnaflow Exhaust. NEW BRAKES, LIMO Tint

Automatic transmission, in good working condition, no leaks

Cold AC, Clean Interior no rips or cuts, Cd/MP3 player, 4 6 1/2" speakers 2 6x9's,keyless remote alarm, power sunroof, power everything.

06 Tundra Wheels, 33" 285/75/16 Maxxis Bighorn Mud Terrains, Old Man EMU Suspension, Manual Locking hubs, 4x4 in good working condition, Energy Suspension Bushings, 5,000lb. Tow Hitch

Exterior color is shiny jet black, no dents, paint is in excellent condition, custom hood scoop, smoked rear tail lights, Front end is upgrade to 92-95 4Runner, All front lights are JDM clear lenses, Bushwhacker fender flares, vehicle is not salvage no accidents has clean title!

When I got there, the first thing I noticed is that it had a HILUX SURF badge on the tailgate with what looked like a factory swing away rear tire carrier and backup lights on the tailgate. Everything looked pretty clean and it ran petty good. How would I know if it is a true HILUX? The owner doesnt know the history of the vehicle. The odometer reads 213,000.

Is there a search that I can do using the VIN# to tell me the origin?

That's big coin for a '91. I can get a 3rd Gen up here, Canadian Dollars, for $6500. We're talking 3.4 engine, factory locker, Limited trim (leather, power everything) in good condition. $7500-8 will get you a mint one.

Those Hilux tail gates have been brought over from Japan for years. I can get a replacement gate for $150 w/glass and motor - pick your color from the pile they stock. I haven't seen a swing-away equipped Hilux gate but I never looked (took mine off - like it on the roof).

Call Toyota with the VIN and ask for a build sheet.

Thanks Noltz. I will do that. The tire carrier is actually bolted to the corner os the body above and below the taillight. If it turns out it is a HILUX, does that make it worth more because they wernt made for the US?
