He just put a new clutch in it too!!! This will be my commuter vehicle to work...My ? to yall is worst case scenario i will just change the motor if i discover its a goner.. where is a good place to find a new/rebuilt/used motor? Other than a u pull it junk yard i have checked local ones and had no luck so online I go.

Oregon engine builders or putney's custom machine are two that come to mind for rebuilt 22re's

if it's just got a knock, you could probably do a $150 or so engine overhaul during the course of a weekend, and have a $450 truck

By overhaul do mean a rebuild kit?

you got it

they're VERY simple engines to rebuild

all you'll need is a good set of metric sockets and a torque wrench, and you can pretty much rebuild the entire truck

check out engnbldr for good rebuild kits

pickn it up tommorow Norcal will def post pics! im excited... this will be a good truck for me. I commute about 80 miles both ways to work and am racking alot of miles on my
4runner. Not to mention how dirty it gets and the rock chips and so on. So this lil truck will be a blessing!

You can do it. Easier than the 4WD. Timing chain and guides, rod and main bearings, oil pump, water pump. Anything else? Done. No more knock, quiet and smooth running engine, good mpg's.

well here she is... I was mistaken on the year it is a 94. It has a knock at idle only cant hear when driving. and it idles real rough... ac blows cold cold. Im not sure what im gonna do about the knock yet... Im exploring options.. I just dont trust myself rebuilding it. I would probably mess something up and have to get it done again.... at any rate here are the pics as promised

1st thing is figure out where exhaust leak is hopefully it's just a gasket and not a cracked manifold. Either way it's pretty loud I'm gonna fix that so I can really hear motor. I think I hear a knock but it's hard to tell. So that's 1st on the list

the knock might just be a manifold gasket, i had a gasket from 1 cylinder on my cummins not seal and it was loud enough i couldn't turn the radio up to drown it out in the cab
and by the way, i got a deal like yours, a 93 4x4 22re for $500 from a junkyard, needed ground wire cleaned and fuel lines

hey mike you did get a steal on that truck man nice!!! But yea i would def try the exhaust gasket first when i put my motor in i had the same prob and it was exhaust shooting out the back by the fire wall. it sounded like a real bad knock. if it is more of a tapping you can always check the valves and adjust deff wont hurt.... good luck man nice truck for 300$
