Gear confusion on my 93 4runner.

My sticker on my door says I have 4.30 gear ratio, but my truck is a manual tranny, r150f.

Looking at the 4crawler webpage, it stated the 4.30 would/should be in a truck with auto tranny.

I'm confused and looking for some help.

The door stickers on both my 4Runners, a 93 and an 01, are incorrect so i wouldn't go by that. The easy way to check is jack up one rear wheel, spin it 2 complete turns and count the driveshaft turns. That'll give you the ratio.

The door sticker in my 93' lists a gear code of G284. If I read that correctly (and assuming the sticker is correct) I should also have 4.30's with the R150F.

Look at ErikB differential page.

Spin and count. It's not hard.

I'll be spinning and counting tomorrow. I just wondered if there is a reason it would have come with that set up. That's all.

I never trust the code. I always spin and count and if rebuilding the axle, just count the R&P and mark the diff. With all the older Toyotas I see, no telling who has done what in 20+ years to the vehicle. I saw a set of 5.71s the other day. They looked weird.

G284... I'd double check... but I'm pretty sure thats the cose for 4.88's, and that would make sense for an auto....

whoops.... my bad... I just looked, G144 = 4.88's, G254 = 4.56's.... cant remember 4.10 or 4.30...

U prolly have the 4.10.... being as its a 5spd

I have a question.... so different codes can be the same ratio? G284 is 4.30... my 4runner is 4.30 but my code is G282. the reason i ask is i have been searching high and low for a rear end for my 88 4runner and looking specifically for that code.

1993 4x4 4Runners with a V6 came with 4.30, 4.56, or 4.88 gears.

1993 4x4 4Runners with a 4 cyl. came with 4.10 or 4.56 gears.

Transmission type has nothing to do with it. Especially since with ALL 1993 4x4 4Runners, 4 cyl. and V6, a 5-speed manual transmission was considered standard equipment. The 4-speed automatic was only available as an option.
