gas saving performance chip???
i've looked at a couple threads talking about some chips, but i havnt really seen what i'm looking for.i've got a 1990 4runner 2dr with a freshly rebuilt 3.0L.its got doug thorley headers, and 32x11.5's on it. i know that these motors are notoriously bad as far as mpg but does anybody know any legit chips that will help mpg in any way??

After I put one in my 4runner the mileage has gone from about 12mpg to 21 mpg and I've noticed quite an increase in power.

ha, those things are a joke, they have a lawsuit against my school cause they tested those things on a dyno, in conjuntion with horsepower magazine. The engine actually lost power and fuel mileage, so they called and asked about it, and the person on the phone said that you had to buy three and put them in conjuction to get a benefit...well they did that too, and lost even more power and fuel mileage!!!! So they are suing my school!!

yup yup.
A light foot, up-shifting early and a light load and proper tire pressure, as well as preventive maintenance: using a suitable weight oil, use the hottest thermostat your engine will tolerate, regular tune-ups (at least cleaning and regapping the plugs as necessary), air filter replacement, valve adjustments, etc. ... tend to do the most for mileage.
A chipped ECU isn't going to do much that you can't do yourself. You can advance your timing above stock, if you're brave you can meddle with the air-flow meter, you can fine tune the TPS.

The previous posters have said it, it doesn't work. There is no "magic" liquid or device to increase MPG. Mechanical condition, tire pressure, and your foot control MPG. If you want some tips, there are numerous threads if you try a search, or we could give some to you.

a lot of times what these cheap chips do is lean out the a/f ratio a bit. similar to playing with the afm adjustment. but this can mean you need more pedal to get where you want to go. so you usualy gain nothing. or lose some.
