Skid and Valence.

Valance removed when I upgraded to 33's.
Why in the world would you want to remove a skid plate without having a suitable replacement?

You must have been the lucky one, I'm guessing you're from Bridgewater, I called the seller and wanted to come pick it up, but he said he had someone coming from Bridgewater to look at it and sold same. I was bummed!

Yeah, that was me. I couldn't believe it when I saw it for sale. I'm currently recovering from a broken ankle and can't even drive. I had to bribe my friend to come over and drive my truck up to almost the NH border to grab it.

I appreciate the offer, but I will be holding onto it for awhile. If I ever decide to get rid of the truck, I'll let you know.

Keep searching though, I saw a TJM bumper for $200 a few months prior.

Still have the skid, no valence though as my friend backed into my truck and mangled it. I was going to bend it back straight and have it look halfway decent, but decided to just leave it off.

Used to run with both... Till I did this..





Then I drove it like this for a couple months...


Now I run with no valence but always with the skid plate. Saved me a few times from hidden boulders...

im running a custom skid plate but no valence the previous owner took it off and he has no idea were it went to to oh well i wana see it with one just to see how it would look i dont like being able to see the bottom of the radiator feel likes it semi exposed like that maybe i will come up with a custom one ? hmmmmm to the drawing board (comrade obama)

The stock valances are too easily damaged. So are the stock front bumpers but whatever different time different place. My dad had it replaced once with another factory valance and after a few weeks of parking in the parking lot at work it was back to looking like the old mangled one.

IMHO my truck looks WAY better without that stupid valance. As far as aerodynamics and fuel economy? Well that's questionable. If you notice in my photos, I still haven't talked myself into hacking off the valance brackets. Even though I will eventually get a badass aftermarket bumper that won't fold in half like an overcooked spaghetti noodle when it meets a little tree, I can't commit to removing a "permanent" fixture.

87, both, untill i get the time and money to make a new front bumper, then im making a valence into it, and prolly gonna beef up the factory skid, untill i bend it...

88 skid no valence after i get the motor back in it.

I've been without one for 6 years now and haven't had a problem. The exposed portion of my rad is actually in better shape than the "protected" area behind the grille.

There are a lot of newer vehicles that have a lot of the rad exposed. For example, my 2003 Durango. There's a huge open section in the bumper. Makes me very nervous when they gravel the roads during winter... and when the tumble weeds go rogue and I hit them doing 80.... No problems with that one to date either.

Another reason I have left my valance, I now have two sets of tires. 90% of my driving is on road and our winter season which would include snow/ice is only about 3 months long.

That said, I run my 235/75/15 on factory steels for economy (helps out with that F'ING retarded gas price we are getting raped on non-stop)

When I plan on wheeling or during snow months, I bolt up 31x10.50's.

The 235's look a little wimpy espically with the valance removed. 31's look perfect for the body size and look even better with the valance removed.

Sounds silly, but I looked at my truck one day with no valance and the 235's and it looked pitiful.

I'm runnin 265/75/16s right now. I'm hoping by the time I get her back on the road I can downsize to a new set of 245/75s and get some of my performance back without losing "the look." I've got (sitting in Oregon) some Maxxis Bighorns 31x10.5 R15 mounted on my factory wheels... which I should probably put on craigslist...

I'd like to go even smaller, but I'm with you. If I do it'd be completely stock again. My oversize rims and tires are all I got!
