exhaust issue
Hello everyone.
I hope you can help me understand something. My 1987 4 runner has a new 22re engine, new headers and a new radiator but I kept my old muffler which is definately not the original one. The other day i was coming down a steep hill on 1st low gear and when i stopped at the bottom to unlock my hubs i noticed lots of smoke from the exhaust. After that i went on the highway to go home and when i arrived home and let the truck idle everithing was fine (no visible smoke). The day after I checked oil and coolant (as I do always cause the engine is new) and nothing was out of the ordinary, same levels. I m checking the exhaust smoke often now and it seems like the engine is not burning fuel properly, especially at low rpms. I have a 2 inch pipe with just the muffler which as i said before, it is not the original one. It is really small and the truck is making lot of noise above 2500 rpm. Is it possible that because of that muffler there is some weird pressure issue that is giving me problems other than making the same sound of a civic with a hole in the muffler?
Thanks

What color smoke??
The normal exhaust on these engines is not all that large.
Has this exhaust system been giving you trouble since the new engine was installed??
Rodent or insect life forms built nests in the exhaust system ?? I have seen that happen
By new engine you mean brand new rebuilt??
Just what kind of noise exhaust leak or the muffler is pretty much shot.??
