disaster trying to remove bed
So I went to rip off my bed of my 91 3vzeee,
and I thought " hey 8 bolts np"
sprayed them with pb for a week and when I went to throw a socket on there I realized, who ever owned the truck before me took the bed off and totally destroyed the nuts!!!!
so im thinking I ot 2 loose with a socket.
so my question is, should I drill out the 6 bolts or is there a way to find and just cut the damn box off, im ok with destroying it if need be its all rusted to crap,
just wondering if anyone has gone threw this and is drilling these bolts in the most horrible locations the best way to go about it,
Thanks
Tyman

that's what I was thinking, I have a die grinder, just by looking tho it looked like it was going to be to close to work a grinder in, I know the one bolt that has the housing under it in the back of the bed is going to be inpassable with a die grinder, but ill give it a shot,
this is why I ask though, ive been wrong many times

yeah that was my plan, figure after a nice week of deep creep, hook up my snap on 1/2 cordless impact and blast them off no worrys, instead it looked like somebody did the same thing but with a SAE socket and rounded them off all the way to the end...
ohh well,
I got some off with the grinder, I actually ended up just grinding 2 of the slats that are welded to the frame right in half, and ill just re weld them on later, ohh well
thanks for the info Guys, im shure ill have more problems along my way of resto!

I just did this.what a pain it was.so much rust here in the northeast.I heated mine with a torch and tapped a smaller 16pt socket a 13 I believe and they came right off.heat is your friend when it comes to rust.

Just be careful under there. I was fighting a stuck bolt on a first gen bed and when it broke free, my hand slipped and I cut my wrist open on the bottom edge of the bed. Then I had to go convince the doctors i wasn't suicidal, i was just trying to remove a truck bed.

yeah but I got some sirouse gas leaking under there, so im going to replace all fuel lines scratch and paint the frame and replace some bake lines.
so yeah.... gas leaks = no torch in my book, I think i'm just gonna cut the damn thing off with a sawzall and build a wood flat bed on it,
its going to be a trail rig from now on anyway, so if I slide off a rock into a tree I wont feel bad hitting a wood bed. already did that with the bed on it ( kind of see it in my avatar pic ) and I was pissed, wood will bounce back.
and yes the northeast rust is some sirouse issues with this truck, its got a good frame still so I want to preserve it best I can,
got a knotted wheel and some POR-15, Hell yeah!
thanks again guys for the help!!
