could a diff breather cause diff leak?

ok.. so im now deciding on if i should continue spending money on my ifs trail rg... im about 1400 into the build and i just wanted a fun truck thats relible to offroad.. i knew i had to drop rear diff 3rd time to rtv and stop leak.. while under truck i found a leak at tranny leak at front diff and my brand new 150 dollar o2 sensor is cracked...

ok the tranny leak i think was a few of the bolts came loose at the shifter and it leaked out slowly..

now the front..hope under the truck and touch the diff breather and i though i peeled mud off the top and was like yea its plugged....turns out i pulled of the top of diff breather!!!

heres the pic!!!

so if all goes well she will live to trail another day...

im ov course gonna change fluid!! could this have caused leak or should i order a pinon seal???

heres a pic of the carnage!

yeah, a plugged breather can cause a diff leak. as the fluid heats up the air in the housing heats up and expands. if it can't get out of the breather, the pressure pushes gear oil out of whatever opening it can find.

^^ditto^^

If you use it for serious offroading, you may consider plumbing some hose to the diffs and the trans so they can breath above the waterline.
I'm sure some on this board can elaborate on this topic

yes i was going to look at getting a nissan diff breather...

im waiting to see if my buddy has one from a part out just because im purchasing a 3rd project and im low on funds....
the plan was to get this going and wheel it for a while ...while i build a hardcore offroad after ive learned what i want exactly!!

but if its gonna cost much more im gonna have to split up the parts between my other 2 trucks and sell the driveline and frame

Same thing happened to my old stock breather. Once I cleaned all the junk out it worked perfect. The leak stopped after that. I also extended my breathers, something you might want to look into
